Among the male prisoners in Beijing Prison, two-thirds are condemned for political reasons and one-third for ordinary crimes. The minimum sentence is two years and the maximum is fifteen years, but sentences are reduced for good behavior. According to the director, the prisoners are reformed by work and study in national and international politics. The cells are not locked.
