  Etching Technique

Etching, the technique Miró used in the Black and Red Series, is one of the intaglio processes. (The others are drypoint, engraving, aquatint, and mezzotint.) These processes employ metal plates, special incising tools, and sometimes chemicals. Etching uses acid to incise the plate.
