WOLFGANG TILLMANS (German, b. 1968) first made a name for himself in London photographing his friends in the worlds of underground music and fashion, and their living and working environments, for progressive British magazines. Groups of casually composed color prints drawn from both his commercial work and his private artistic oeuvre and arrayed on the gallery wall by the artist himself speak to Tillmans's involvement in a variety of contemporary youth cultures. Left: Adam, head down. 1991. Chromogenic color print. 11 1/2 x 8 3/4". Lent by the artist and Andrea Rosen Gallery, New York
