I'm Joan Jonas, and I'm an artist. I don't know Gego’s work that well, but I like these works. It's very delicate and it's unusual. I wonder if she was interested in the shadows that her work made.
It looks like she drew the piece as she was working. It's a three-dimensional drawing in space with different weights of wire. It's quite dynamic and it's very free form. It's not a minimalist structure. It's also playful which I like. She's constructed three-dimensional scribbles out of wire.
I'm very interested in the relation of drawing to sculpture and in drawing in general. What to draw, how to draw. Drawing is one of my main activities, and I always try to invent different ways of drawing and so it interests me to see how people can draw, how lines can exist in space and dimension.
