Learning Specialist, Marco Hermosillo-McCune: Hi, my name is Marco, and I’m a learning specialist here at MoMA. On this floor, we’re gonna be looking at artworks that were created from the 1980s to our time.
The theme of this tour is Art and Society. So the artists that we’re gonna see are choosing to tell us something about the world around them. They’re responding to what was happening in their societies, in their communities. Sometimes they’re talking about struggles of power or politics. Sometimes they’re talking about their own internal thoughts.
Something very cool about the artwork on this floor is that we’re gonna encounter artists from many different places in the world. And you’re gonna be hearing from the artists themselves.
By discovering what this other person is saying about the world, it’s also telling us a little bit about how we can think about ourselves in this world, the roles that we’re playing in our society, in our communities. So we start discovering a little bit more about other people, but also about us.
