Artist, Bridget Riley:  I had a remarkable mother. We shared this great appreciation for this gift of what sight had to offer.

Narrator: That's Bridget Riley. In works like this, she explores how our perception of color changes, depending on the context. By placing thin lines of color side by side, her images can seem to radiate energy.

Bridget Riley:  The instability of color, which is what I'm most involved with, the color is, through interaction. Not a precisely, constantly identifiable experience, but it's shifting this way and that way and appearing and reappearing. And that is a very tenuous and delicate thing to allow to flower, if you like, or to develop without crushing it by too big areas so that it becomes inert.
