Artist, April Greiman:  Hi, I’m April Greiman. My practice is a hybrid practice layering different disciplines: graphic design, colorist, photography, typographer.

I came out to Los Angeles from New York and I met Jayme Odgers. He was a photographer and then he recognized that my typography could be great to bring to clients that he had. The ad campaigns we did together, the kind of photo shoot we set up, and all that was really kind of a love affair with how we could work together.

The last project we did together was the 1984 Olympics poster. The concept there was this Olympian jumping out of this very abstract kind of art background. It's Ellie Daniel—she was a gold medalist swimmer. And I wanted to combine a fine art silkscreen print with a high-end photograph. I like the texture of different technologies. I felt like every texture allowed for a different emotional response.

I worked with Jayme for three years. We produced an enormous amount of work that was known as “California New Wave.” That's whatever somebody decided to call what a bunch of us were doing that was different than what had preceded it.

I have ways that I explore and things that I think about, but I don't have a style. What I do is unique for each thing that I create.
