Narrator: Have you ever rescued something that somebody else threw away and turned it into something else? That’s what the artist Lee Bontecou did to make this.
Artist, Lee Bontecou: I used to live over a laundry. And the old conveyor belts, he just threw away and I was just really lucky. Nice heavy canvas and good old-fashioned grease and the right color, I used to take them and cut the pieces of canvas and stretch them in there with wire.
Narrator: Look at how the big, curvy parts push outward—almost into your space as you’re standing here. Now look at the huge, black hole in the center. Does it remind you of anything? Where might it lead to?
