GLENN LOWRY: Hello, I'm Glenn Lowry, Director of The Museum of Modern Art. I'm pleased to welcome you to Print/Out, an exploration of printmaking over the last 20 years. Taking advantage of the Museum’s extensive collection, the exhibition examines how the medium has evolved and what it means to a broad range of artists from around the world.

CHRISTOPHE CHERIX: And one of the things we have witnessed in the last two decades is how artists have been moving in and out of print-making with a great fluidity, often combining techniques which traditionally were not associated with printmaking.

GLENN LOWRY: Christophe Cherix, Chief Curator of the Department of Prints and Illustrated Books.

CHRISTOPHE CHERIX: So today, to define what a print is, is a much more complex exercise than it used to be. New techniques have emerged, a new way of distributing art works have been used by artists. And the work of a publisher has changed over the last two decades as well.

GLENN LOWRY: On this tour you will also hear from artists, printers and publishers whose work has helped expand the definition of printmaking.

In addition, a special sound piece was created by the artist Trisha Donnelly, whose series Satin Operator is dispersed throughout the exhibition. You will hear this audio intervention intermittently throughout the tour.
