SARAH SUZUKI: I’m Sarah Suzuki, Associate Curator, and I’m pleased to welcome you to Printin’, one section of the exhibition Print/Out located on Floor 6.
Printin’ takes as its central subject Ellen Gallagher’s tour-de-force work, DeLuxe, which was completed in 2005. The 60 prints that comprise DeLuxe were made with an incredible range of materials and techniques. It references everything from the Victorian process of photogravure to digital printing and tattooing. Ellen has spoken about her appreciation for printmaking for its collaborative nature, and its capacity for broad distribution.
This exhibition features a constellation of works by other artists that cut across chronology, geography, and medium. These works have either influenced Ellen, or have a connection to DeLuxe in terms of technique, form or content. On this tour, you will hear from some of the artists, as well as poets, curators, and from Ellen herself.
