MARINA ABRAMOVIĆ: I first made sound installations and with the sound I start actually demonstrating the sound and involving my body. But the really first, first performance I ever made was Rhythm 10.
GLENN LOWRY: In this piece, Abramović recorded the sound of her stabbing a knife into a tabletop between her fingers until she missed and cut herself. She would then play back the recording and re-enact the same sequence, repeating the exact rhythm and cutting herself at the same moment.
MARINA ABRAMOVIĆ: So that actually time past and time present, you unify together by having two cuts in the same place, on my fingers.
