Walid Raad. Introduction

Narrator: Welcome to MoMA. This exhibition features photography, video, and sculpture by the artist Walid Raad. On this tour, you will hear an interview with the artist about his work made over the last 25 years.

Walid Raad: My name is Walid Raad. I am an artist and a professor of art in New York. I'm originally from Lebanon, but I've been living in the U.S. for the past 30 years.

In most of the works that I do, I always proceed from facts. But I think that there are different kinds of facts. Some facts tend to be historical. Some facts are emotional. And some facts are aesthetic. An artwork is an interesting instance in which one may be able to maintain all these facts in their continuum and their complexity.

I'm presenting works from two long-term series. One is called The Atlas Group and the other is called Scratching on Things I Could Disavow.

Narrator: This exhibit also gives you the opportunity to experience one of Raad’s presentations, titled Walkthrough. He will perform it live multiple times a week, or you can listen to a recorded version as part of this audio tour.
