Frequently asked questions

MoMA is open daily from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m,. and until 7:00 p.m. on Saturdays. Please be advised that in the morning and on rainy days there may be a line to enter.

On Saturday and Sunday mornings, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., select galleries are open to members and their guests only.

New York City residents can visit for free on the first Friday of every month from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., made possible by UNIQLO. UNIQLO NYC Nights free admission tickets become available for NYC residents one week prior to the first Friday of every month.

There are several private parking garages nearby, and some offer special rates for our visitors.

All visitors, including members, must use the main entrance of the Rockefeller Building on 53rd Street, between Fifth and Sixth avenues. The entrance to MoMA is on the opposite side of the street from the 5 Avenue-53 St Station E / M subway station and down the block heading west.

All bags will be inspected upon arrival. We reserve the right to prohibit any items and to require visitors to check any bags or items.

Outside food and drinks are prohibited in the Museum.

Please wear backpacks on the front of your chest or carry them with your hand to the side to help us keep the artwork safe.

Posters, small works of art (e.g. postcards, 8.5 × 11″ prints, etc.), and similar items must be rolled up or carried in a bag at all times.

Yes. The Museum has a coat checkroom. Certain items are not allowed inside the Museum and may not be left in the coat checkroom. See our visitor guidelines and policies for additional details.

For film screenings taking place during Museum hours in the Roy and Niuta Titus Theaters 1 and 2, please enter at the main entrance of the Rockefeller Building on 53rd Street, close to Sixth Avenue and just east of our flagship Museum Store.

For after hours screenings, please enter at the Ronald S. and Jo Carole Lauder Building entrance at 11 West 53rd Street closest to Fifth Avenue. For film screenings taking place in the Celeste Bartos (Theater 3), please enter at 4 West 54th Street.

Advanced purchase online is required to guarantee Museum entry and to receive key information before your visit. A limited number of tickets will be available for purchase on-site at our ticketing desk, on a first-come, first-served basis.

Once inside the Museum, online ticket holders can skip the ticket line and proceed directly to the galleries. MoMA admission tickets include access to all galleries and special exhibitions, as well as free admission to MoMA PS1 within 14 days.

Admission is free for children 16 and under but a ticket is still required.

If you have one of these passes, there is no need to make an online reservation. When you arrive at the Museum, please present your pass at the Ticketing Desk, and our staff will be able to assist you.

Please keep your ticket with you at all times after it has been scanned. You may be asked to present your ticket again since there are different entry points to the galleries.

Yes, you can leave MoMA and come back the same day as long as you keep your ticket.

Still photography and video are permitted for personal, non-commercial use only unless otherwise noted. Flash, tripods, and camera extension poles are not allowed.

Please admire artwork from a distance, at least an arm’s length and/or respecting any stanchions in place. Touching art, platforms, or cases is not permitted (unless a sign or label indicates otherwise).

Yes, you may sketch or write in the galleries but only with pencil. Please use sketchbooks no larger than 8.5 × 11″ in the galleries.

There are two ways to listen using your own device.

Download the free Bloomberg Connects app and select MoMA’s guide to hear from artists, curators and others. The guide offers suggestions on where to start and helps you find your way around the Museum.

You can also browse audio playlists on moma.org/audio.

Headphones are not required, but we recommend bringing them for the best quality sound experience.

You can find a downloadable map on our website. At MoMA, you can scan QR codes in the lobby and around the Museum to access the visitor guide and map. MoMA’s free guide on the Bloomberg Connects app also has a map. Read about MoMA’s sustainability efforts to learn why we no longer print paper maps.

In the main lobby you’ll find a large digital screen that displays what’s on that day and locates galleries, exhibitions, and amenities. There are digital screens with similar information adjacent to all elevators.

For The Modern and Modern Bar Room, walk-ins are welcome and reservations can be made up to 28 days in advance.

Museum admission is required to access Café 2, the Terrace Café, and Espresso Bar.

Dining at The Modern or Modern Bar Room do not require Museum admission.

Yes, but please keep your ticket so you may reenter.

MoMA ticket holders may receive a discount at local restaurants. You can also check out some staff picks for where to eat in midtown—we recommend you confirm each establishment’s availability directly.

All-gender restrooms are on Floors 1, 3W, 5, and T1.

You can find water fountains outside of restroom locations.

All of our restrooms have baby changing stations.

MoMA WiFi is available free of charge to all visitors.

There are charging stations on floor 2 by the Espresso Bar, across from the Museum Store.

The Heyman Family Art Lab is open daily for free, hands-on activities for kids of all ages.

Listen to the Kids audio playlist as you explore the galleries, easily accessed on MoMA website or the Bloomberg Connects App.

Pick up a Kids Activity Guide either in the Art Lab or in the lobby for fun activities and conversational prompts while looking at art.

Check our schedule of events for drop-in and other family programs for kids of all ages.

Keep a look out for works of art that have labels written especially for kids.

A feeding and lactation pod is available courtesy of Mamava, on Floor 1 adjacent to restrooms. For access, use the Mamava app or ask a guest assistant for the keypad code.

Baby strollers are welcome, but stroller access may occasionally be limited in certain galleries.

For safety, strollers are not allowed on escalators. We also ask that you do not carry children on your shoulders.

Wheelchairs and rollators are available for use free of charge at all Museum entrances on a first-come, first-served basis. For questions or assistance, please approach any MoMA staff member. Portable stools are also available for use free of charge, and can be requested from any MoMA staff member in the main lobby.

Service animals are welcome. They must be leashed and be attended for the duration of your visit. Pets are not permitted.

Admission is always free for caregivers accompanying a visitor with a disability but a ticket is still required.

There are free sensory kits available for pickup at the Crown Creativity Lab on the second floor of the Museum and the Heyman Family Art Lab in the Education and Research Building. Ask a staff member stationed at the Creativity Lab or Art Lab desks for a kit.

The sensory kit contains items that may help calm overstimulating situations. Inside the tote bag you will find resources to support your visit, including a printed Social Guide and Sensory Map, fidgets, noise-canceling headphones, and sunglasses.

While there is not a dedicated sensory-friendly space, you can find sensory-friendly spaces throughout the Museum using our Sensory Friendly Map and MoMA’s free guide on the Bloomberg Connects app.

NYPD officers provide additional security to keep everyone safe at the Museum, and are a direct connection to emergency services should they ever be needed.

Please approach the nearest Security Officer for help. They will be able to call for further assistance and make an announcement across the museum to help reunite with your group member.

Yes, art historians are available to provide guided tours of MoMA’s collection, the Museum’s architecture, and current exhibitions. Tours can be customized to focus on specific galleries, mediums, or collection areas, and are available in multiple languages.

Yes, MoMA welcomes groups by appointment and offers discounted rates for parties of up to 30 visitors. Skip the line with expedited check-in and receive a dedicated arrival time exclusively for your group.

Yes, MoMA has guided tours available for students in kindergarten through grade 12. School Programs tours are led by MoMA educators who focus on 3 to 4 works per tour and a broad theme to guide the experience of looking and discussing.

The Museum Store is located adjacent to the lobby of 11 West 53rd Street. You do not need admission to visit this store.

On Floor 2, near Cafe 2, you will find a second Museum Store which has a large selection of cards, stationary, toys, totes. shirts, and other small gifts.

On Floor 6 there is a small gift shop with MoMA souvenirs, art supplies, and exhibition-specific items.

Across the street from our main entrance on West 53rd Street you can also shop at the MoMA Design Store, which offers unique home goods and other classic modern and cutting edge design products for adults and kids.
