In my time at home, I have been reflecting on how fortunate my colleagues and I are in “normal” times to be able to freely visit MoMA’s galleries during the work day. I truly miss that privilege. Like so many, I’ve just come to know the “new MoMA.” I find myself thinking more and more of Faith Ringgold’s American People Series #20: Die, now prominently featured in Gallery 503. The chaos, violence, and panic that are evoked by this painting feel very close to our current situation, and the truth that it underscores seems more relevant than ever. I feel thankful to the artist for expressing this so powerfully.
