I’ve been daydreaming about Rirkrit Tiravanija’s untitled (free/still). Hunkered down in my Brooklyn apartment finds my family and me preparing every meal ourselves. Although we’ve been moderately successful at not eating frozen burritos around the clock, it has exposed the limitations of our culinary knowledge and skills, as well as our newly limited access to ingredients. I fantasize about Rirkrit’s spicy Thai curry over perfectly cooked fragrant rice. But more importantly, I miss eating in the company of strangers—not only talking to someone over a bowl of food, but being in their proximity.
