Ralph Adams Cram, Bertram Grosvenor Goodhue, Cram, Goodhue and Ferguson. Saint Thomas Church. 1911–13; designed 1906. 53rd Street and Fifth Avenue
I have always thought that in addition to the brilliant acoustics that serve the choir so well, and the recently restored stained glass, the sculpted figures on St. Thomas’s giant reredos are fascinating. Not just the usual saints but, for example, George Washington on the right panel and William Gladstone on the left. It’s well worth a visit during a quiet time or at a choral evensong.
