The magazine Merz, founded as a kind of manifesto for Kurt Schwitters’s movement of the same name, was the decisive site for his collaborations with the international avant-garde. Early issues of Merz were aligned with a Dada aesthetic; artists Jean Arp and Theo van Doesburg and the writer Tristan Tzara were among its first contributors.
