While illustrating the dreams of others in her photomontages, Stern found ways to incorporate items of social commentary and personal significance. In Dream No. 6: Untitled (Sueño No. 6: Sin título), a young woman walks between two bookshelves, picking berries. The spines of the books provide Stern with the opportunity to make broader statements. The authors of the books are all male, pointing to the invisibility of women in the literary realm. One of the books, published by Sur (whose editorial offices hosted Stern’s first exhibition in Buenos Aires), recalls Stern’s own introduction into the Argentine art scene.
