“For a conservator, study of August Sander’s work is a dream come true: he was precise, systematic, and deliberate; a hard-working and thoughtful professional. [...] I chose this portfolio because there are three vintage Farming Types prints at MoMA, which was my entry to a material-based study. Our approach here at MoMA is to align primary resources with analysis of the tangible qualities of the photographic materials. I believe Sander’s material choices carried great significance to him.”
