This photograph likely captures White’s students at the Workshop School of Advertising and Editorial Art completing a life-drawing exercise. White maintained convivial friendships with his students at the Workshop School, and frequently used them as models for his photographs on class breaks. A dedicated educator, White began teaching drawing even before he had finished his own studies at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. He gained part-time employment as an art instructor at Saint Elizabeth Catholic High School and taught life drawing at the South Side Community Art Center once it opened in 1940.
