A welded steel structure draped with tangled ropes wedged with fids (conical wooden tools used on boats to secure lines and sails), Methane Sea is one of many sculptures that Adkins assembled from found objects. A multidisciplinary artist and musician, Adkins often combined sculpture and performance to address African-American history and culture.
