"In recent bodies of work I’ve felt compelled to insert myself into currents of history, particularly where frictions between citizens and their governments manifest in dramatic forms. These have been important moments to speculate about competing notions of reality and the role of the individual within a collective. For me, photographs are limited in their ability to offer definitive evidence, but by blending the poetic, the documentary, and the surreal, I hope to find different visual idioms that can lend urgency and insight to fundamental human struggles."
