“The immediacy with which photographs can be ‘understood’ make them ripe for co-optation, so I try to guard and invert mine. In this work, photographs are subtly incorporated in the small keychains that hang from the rungs of the ladder. Sometimes I exclude photographs entirely and use sculptural forms as semantic stand-ins—using materials that have specific and/or dedicational attributes to hold or frame, I try to refer to a person’s subjecthood with idiosyncrasy and care.”
