Bratescu made these works by transforming a sewing machine loaded with brightly colored thread into a tool for drawing elaborate images on fabric. Her use of materials traditionally associated with feminine craft techniques belies the provocative nature of the works’ subject matter: the mad and murderous mythological character of Medea.
