The Museum of Modern Art, October 4, 2014–January 18, 2015
The exhibition’s final gallery presents works made as early as 1975 and as recently as this past spring. Images of domestic objects and architecture and themes of childhood and the body reverberate across the decades. The dollhouse on the floor is one of several that Gober designed, built, and sold during his first years in New York City as one way to earn a living. The sculptures and installations that followed activated the imaginative potential of these small structures. In the words of the pioneering psychoanalyst D. W. Winnicott, “Home is where we start from.”
