Drawing on the visual language of advertising, Heinecken collaged images onto life-size promotional cutouts—showing such icons as the actress Cybill Shepherd and the tennis champion Andre Agassi—and then rephotographed and remounted the images onto foamcore. Throughout his career, Heinecken’s work “had to do with altering the literal/cultural meaning of existing public images by making minimal changes and additions,” the artist wrote. “Using superimposition, juxtaposition and other contextual changes, I am functioning as a visual guerrilla.”
