Filmmaker Anders Grafstrom and new wave performance icon Klaus Nomi were among the scene’s first casualties, from a road accident and AIDS, respectively. Super8 films by Grafstrom bring Nomi back to the screen in virtually unseen footage of an early gig at Fiorucci and an out-of-character but wildly evocative screen test for Charles Ludlam. Video from Grafstrom’s memorial features performances by Nomi, Kristian Hoffman, Tina L’Hotsky, and others, in a testament to his lasting influence. His accomplished feature The Long Island Four, represented here by its trailer, was restored by the Museum and will screen in Club 57’s accompanying film series.
