Rauschenberg loved animals and would often take stray cats into his Lafayette Street studio. He also had three dogs, a rabbit, and even a pet turtle named Rocky, after which he named the Rauschenberg Overseas Culture Interchange (ROCI, 1984–91), a large-scale traveling exhibition program he founded to promote the exchange of art and ideas abroad.
