In the summer of 1961 Rauschenberg moved his studio to 809 Broadway, while Swedish painter Öyvind Fahlström took over the artist’s former Front Street place. During Rauschenberg’s time at 809 Broadway, he began his series of silkscreen paintings. The space of the studio also allowed him to pursue more ambitious ways of collaborating. Working with a team of engineers led by Billy Klüver and Harold Hodges, he explored technology with his sound sculpture Oracle (1962–65). He became increasingly involved with the newly formed Judson Dance Theater group, often using his studio as a rehearsal space.
