Tania Bruguera lives between Havana, Cuba, and New York City. Untitled (Havana, 2000), an installation comprising live performance, video, and sugarcane set in immersive darkness suggests the contradictions of life following the Cuban Revolution. The video is comprised of historical footage of Fidel Castro, here shown pulling aside his military uniform to prove the absence of a bulletproof vest. Untitled (Havana, 2000) was originally installed in a military fortress used as a jail for prisoners of conscience. Bruguera's subsequent work has increasingly focused on issues of immigration and human rights.
