Founder of the Bauhaus School, architect, and industrial designer Walter Gropius fled Nazi Germany in 1934 and sought refuge in Britain before immigrating to the US. In 1937, he took a faculty position at the Harvard Graduate School of Design, where he trained a generation of American architects. The principles animating his design philosophy—simplicity of form, efficient functional design, and economy of materials—can be seen in these door handles.
