Born in Hong Kong, Paul Chan moved to Nebraska as a child with his family in 1981. Later, as an artist and activist, he was struck by the desolate landscape of post-Katrina New Orleans. Seeing a city left to “wait,” Chan imagined staging Samuel Beckett’s play Waiting for Godot in this landscape, and he collaborated with local high schools, universities, actors, and activists to realize an outdoor performance.
