Ali Tayar, an architect born in Turkey, educated in Stuttgart and at MIT, and who practiced in New York until his early death, was inspired to design this table by Mies van der Rohe’s Barcelona Pavilion. He worked with a structural engineer to devise a table without any connections or moving pieces, held together only by the force of gravity.
