Hedda Sterne was born in Bucharest, Romania, and spent time in Surrealist circles in Paris before fleeing Europe for New York in 1941. In this work, part of a series that celebrates the roads, bridges, and architecture of New York, she depicts an abstracted version of her adoptive city.
