Additions in red ink: four faces delineated, anticipating state II. Additions in white correction fluid: flower covering lower right boy’s face masked, anticipating state III.
Background:
According to printer Felix Harlan of Harlan & Weaver, the floral motif in this composition was inspired by a very old piece of upholstery fabric that belonged to the artist.
The inscription on the verso of this impression refers to Bourgeois's husband, Robert Goldwater, and her three sons, Michel, Jean-Louis, and Alain.
