Artist’s Remarks:
Inscribed on the verso of the source drawing: "For Paulo / Dalai-Lama (partially erased) / useful excrements / fertilize / DALEY LAMA (partially erased) / trema (partially erased) / herbivore / Ruminant"
Curatorial Remarks:
Inscription on the verso of the source drawing refers to Paulo Herkenhoff, a Brazilian curator and critic who had a longstanding friendship and professional relationship with Bourgeois.

A partially erased inscription on the verso of the source drawing includes the words, “Dalai Lama,” which may refer to another composition Bourgeois was developing around the same time. That composition, titled "Who, What, When, Where, Why?" was originally intended as a benefit project for the Dalai Lama but did not come to fruition.
