There are variations in the fabrics used for this edition, as is commonly found in the old fabrics Bourgeois chose to use as printing surfaces. The two varying examples are reproduced in the Evolving Composition Diagram below.

According to Bourgeois's assistant, Jerry Gorovoy, the imagery in this print refers to Bourgeois's preoccupation with the mechanisms of the body and, in particular, bodily fluids, which she called "precious liquids."
