"No. 2/5" lower middle sheet verso, black ink, unknown hand.
Edition Information:
There is 1 known impression of state II, outside the edition.
The editioned "Nature Study" series sets numbered 2/5–5/5 and 1 A.P. are each comprised of 15 individual sheets, as seen here in the set numbered 2/5. The set numbered 1/5 differs from the rest of the edition in that it includes only plates 1–12 (and not plate 13, 14, or 15) of 15 in the series. Set 1/5 is mounted on a single large table cloth and is arranged in the formation of a clock. See Related Works in the Catalogue below. At the center of the clock are two additional drypoints also printed by Harlan & Weaver, New York. The editioned sets numbered 2/5–5/5 and 1 A.P. do not include these two additional prints.
There are variations in the fabrics used in this edition, as is commonly found in the old fabrics Bourgeois chose to use as printing surfaces.
Dimensions throughout the edition vary slightly because of hemming and stretching fluctuations.
State Changes and Additions:
Changes from state I, in drypoint: concentric lines added overall.
Installation Remarks:
This composition is one of 15 that constitute a single work of art. All of these compositions are to be exhibited together, though there is no required sequence.
Curatorial Remarks:
There are no source drawings for this series, unlike for many of Bourgeois’s prints.
Due to the nature of the mounting and framing of this work, the verso could not be examined.
