Changes from state II, by burnishing: flower covering lower right boy’s face removed.
Background:
According to printer Felix Harlan of Harlan & Weaver, the floral motif in this composition was inspired by a very old piece of upholstery fabric that belonged to the artist.
The inscription on the verso of state I refers to Bourgeois's husband, Robert Goldwater, and her three sons, Michel, Jean-Louis, and Alain.
