Background:
Bourgeois created prints as holiday gifts for a circle of friends. "The Smile" was printed in paper and fabric editions, and both were used as holiday gifts for 2001.
Other Remarks:
Printer Judith Solodkin, of SOLO Impression, notes that she has titled this print "The Child" in her records, but that the Louise Bourgeois Studio calls it "The Smile."
