- Matrices: The progression of this composition, as seen in the Evolving Composition Diagram below, involved 2 plates in 3 different techniques.
Plate 1, in drypoint, engraving, and aquatint: house and sun.
Plate 2, in aquatint, drypoint, and engraving: shading in mounds, sun, and lowest horizontal band.
State Changes:
Plate 1 printed in black.
Changes from state IX, in drypoint: hatch marks added to topmost horizontal band. - Curatorial Remarks:
- Although the verso of the source drawing is inscribed "Landscape" by the artist, the Louise Bourgeois Studio has designated the title of the drawing to the same as that of the print. The drawing was exhibited in "Louise Bourgeois Drawings and Sculpture" at Kunsthaus Bregenz in 2002. The accompanying catalogue lists the title as "Landscape."
- Other Remarks:
- Although it appears possible that the artist used a new plate for state VII, Carol Weaver of Harlan & Weaver, New York, remembers Bourgeois extensively working the same plate and continuing to use it. A new plate was not introduced until state XVI.
