“Orbits and Gravity” is a title applied to seven numerically-ordered compositions, dated 2008-2009. (#4 is applied to two different compositions, designated A and B for cataloguing purposes.) One composition, Untitled (Orbits and Gravity #1), has four panels, and another, Untitled (Orbits and Gravity #2), has two panels. The compositions often incorporate the same plates but in different configurations. In addition to the composition documented here, the six others in this group are seen in Related Works in the Catalogue.
This composition is made up of two panels. The two panels incorporate plates that also appear in Untitled (Orbits and Gravity #1) (second panel), Untitled (Orbits and Gravity #3), Untitled (Orbits and Gravity #5) (one of two superimposed plates), and Untitled (Orbits and Gravity #6) (middle plate, in center of sheet).
In addition, the plate in the left panel appears in "The Fall" and in "The Sky was Spinning," both seen in Related Works in the Catalogue.
The color of the hand additions, plate size, and paper type could not be documented because this work is not in MoMA's Collection and could not be examined in person.
