Edition Information:
“Orbits and Gravity” is a title applied to seven numerically-ordered compositions, dated 2008-2009. (#4 is applied to two different compositions, designated A and B for cataloguing purposes.) One composition, Untitled (Orbits and Gravity #1), has four panels and another, Untitled (Orbits and Gravity #2), has two panels. The compositions often incorporate the same plates but in different configurations. In addition to the composition documented here, the six others in this group are seen in Related Works in the Catalogue.

This composition is made up of four panels. The four panels incorporate plates that also appear in Untitled (Orbits and Gravity #2) (right panel), Untitled (Orbits and Gravity #3), Untitled (Orbits and Gravity #4) (A and B), Untitled (Orbits and Gravity #5) (one of two superimposed plates), and Untitled (Orbits and Gravity #6) (all three plates, in center of sheet).

In addition, the plate in the first panel of this composition appears in “Je Cherche Après Titine”; the plate in the second panel appears in “Fall” and in “The Sky was Spinning”; and the plate in the second and third panel appears in “The Sky was Spinning” (two superimposed plates). All can be seen in Related Works in the Catalogue.

In the final days of producing, “Louise Bourgeois: The Complete Prints & Books,” a new impression titled Untitled (Orbits and Gravity) came to light. It includes the same four plates that appear in Untitled (Orbits and Gravity #1), and can be seen in the States row in the Evolving Composition Diagram below. Due to its late discovery, it could not be fully integrated into the larger "Orbits and Gravity" project.
Curatorial Remarks:
The plate size and paper type could not be documented because this work is not in MoMA's Collection and could not be examined in person.
