The ACT UP Art Box is a fundraising project of ACT UP/New York. ACT UP (AIDS Coalition To Unleash Power) is a non-partisan group of individuals, united in anger and committed to direct action to end the AIDS crisis. The group organizes demonstrations, meets with government and public health officials, and researches and distributes the latest medical information.
The limited edition "ACT UP Art Box" contains the multiple seen here, and the work of 6 other artists: Ross Bleckner (plastic bird), Mike Kelly (wooden egg), Simon Leung (screenprint on silk), Lorna Simpson (2 glass objects and text), Kiki Smith (glass object and photograph), and Nancy Spero (stamp with hand additions on box lid). The composition on the lid of each "ACT UP Art Box" varies across the edition. To view these works, see the alternate image.
