State Changes and Additions:
Changes from state I, in drypoint: hatching added between double contours. Irises filled in. Additions in monotype: red shape covering lower half of face and blue portions in lower composition added. Additions by puncture: hole added to right iris.
Background:
On October 5th, 1999, the artist was visited by the David Rockefeller, Jr. and Richard Lanier. They visited to discuss the Praemium Imperiale Award from the Japan Art Association. Since 1989, the 5 prizes per year have been awarded in the categories of painting, sculpture, architecture, music, and film/theater. Bourgeois was the recipient in the sculpture category in 1999.
