- Background:
- "The Maternal Man" was created in 2008 for Parkett no. 82 as part of the series "Editions for Parkett." No. 82 features three artists, with a series of articles and accompanying editions; the artists are Louise Bourgeois, Pawel Althamer, and Rachel Harrison. The articles on Bourgeois are by Tracey Emin, Griselda Pollock, and Robert Storr.
Bourgeois did several collaborations with Parkett over the years. In 1991, she did an edition for issue no. 27 called "Reparation," seen below in Related Works in the Catalogue. In 1999, plate 8 of 9 from Bourgeois's illustrated book "Ode à Ma Mère" was reproduced across the spines of issues nos. 55, 56, and 57. (The print can be seen below.) - MoMA Credit Line:
