Changes from state V, by burnishing: linear elements of female nose removed. Changes from state V, by scraping: portions of shading removed from eyelids and lips. Changes from state V, in engraving: iris and lower eyelid reinforced. Changes from state V, in drypoint: male lips further delineated. Additions in red colored pencil: top of head drawn over uninked portion of composition; lower eyelids and irises reinforced.
Other Remarks:
According to a printer's incription on the verso of this impression, the white portion in the upper center of the composition was caused by "ink removal [...] with solvent prior to printing."
