Signature:
"Louise Bourgeois" lower middle to right margin, pencil.
Inscription:
Verso (a): "Where would we be / without each other / ?" center to lower center sheet, pencil, artist's hand. "Left" lower middle sheet, pencil, artist's hand. Verso (b): "Right" lower middle sheet, pencil, artist's hand.
The plate used in this composition was issued as an edition, in two variants outside the edition, and in three unique variants (one in the series, “Le Matin Rouge”). All can be seen in the Evolving Composition Diagram below.
Two in the edition (2/9 and 8/9) have the color impression on the right side, rather than the black impression on the right as in the rest of the edition. (See 8/9 in the Evolving Composition Diagram.) Two in the edition (4/9 and 8/9) have a noticeable red plate tone on the color impression.
There are also two known cancellation proofs.
Installation Remarks:
Left and right sheets should overlap slightly so that the pencil hand additions are connected (see image).
