- Changes from state I, by burnishing: outermost balloons removed.
Changes from state I, in engraving: contours of room, window, and door reinforced; new balloon configuration delineated; shading added in lower left corner of back wall.
Changes from state I, in drypoint: lines added filling in balloons and ceiling. - Background:
- This composition was developed in conjunction with the second edition of the illustrated book, "He Disappeared into Complete Silence," published in 2005. However, the artist decided not to include it with the other 11 plates.
