2 known impressions of this trial version for the cover of "The Woven Child," 2003, a unique fabric portfolio
Edition Information:
There are slight variations in the fabrics used in the 2 known impressions of this composition, as is commonly found in the old fabrics Bourgeois chose to use as printing surfaces.
The additional known trial version of this composition is not illustrated, due to its similiarity to the impression seen here.
Background:
The text on this trial version cover comes from Bourgeois's voluminous writings—in her diaries, on loose sheets, or on the backs of drawings. The specific source and date are not known.
During the early 2000s, Bourgeois worked with SOLO Impression on the editioned version of "Ode à l'oubli," a book of fabric collages and two lithographed text pages. The phrases on those text pages came from her earlier writings. Inspired by that collaboration, Bourgeois created several other printed fabric works with lithographed texts or titles.
